Harris Receives Fulbright Scholar Grant

BOONE—Al Harris of Boone has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture at the University of Évora in Évora, Portugal, according to the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.
Harris is a professor in the Department of Computer Information Systems at Appalachian State University. He will spend April-July 2006 at the University of Évora teaching a graduate class in information systems and working with students and faculty on research projects, and working with students on their master’s theses.
The University of Évora is a public university located about 100 miles east of Lisbon.
Harris said the assignment is a perfect match to the work he does at Appalachian where he teaches a course in global info technologies, and has taught courses in advanced systems design and issues in strategic and international systems.
While in Portugal, Harris also will collect information for a global study on ethics sensitivity in the information systems field.
Harris is one of approximately 850 U.S. faculty and professionals who will travel abroad tor some 150 countries during the 2005-06 academic year as a Fulbright scholar.
