Concert May 23 Highlights Appalachian Chamber Orchestra’s European Tour

BOONE— Appalachian State University’s Chamber Orchestra has been invited to perform in festivals celebrating the 250th anniversary of Mozart’s birth in Austria and the Czech Republic this summer.

A pre-tour concert featuring works that will be performed overseas will be held at 7 p.m. on May 23 in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free, but donations to offset the cost of the trip will be accepted.

Director James Allen Anderson says the concert combines music from American and European traditions that explores the countries’ commonalities and differences and honors their musical cultures.

Selections on the May 23 program are Beethoven’s “Consecration of the House Overture,” Copland’s “Quiet City” and “Eight Poems of Emily Dickinson’ and Mozart’s “Symphony No.1 and “Magic Flute Overture.”

Student soloists are Ashley Hollar, Caitlin Nicholas and Kathryn Yeager.
