LAURINBURG—The critically acclaimed book “The High Heart” by Appalachian State University professor Joseph Bathanti has been selected for the summer reading assignment for incoming freshmen at St. Andrews Presbyterian College.

Bathanti will appear in Laurinburg in September and meet with area residents and students at St. Andrews as part of the college’s community Reading Program. [more]

BOONE—Some 300 university students representing more than 35 countries participated in the Iberoamerican Leadership Congress held in Barcelona, Spain. Only four students from the United States attended the conference, three of whom were from Appalachian State University. [more]

BOONE—Appalachian State University is seeking 500 individuals between the ages of 30-85 to participate in a study to determine the effectiveness of quercetin in reducing sickness from upper respiratory infections. Quercetin is a natural antioxidant derived from plants, such as red apples, red grapes and broccoli. [more]
