BOONE—Topics from environmental ethics to religion and nature will be featured during the 2010 Business and Environmental Ethics Conference Sept. 17 at Appalachian State University. Other topics include environmental economics, strategy and nature, and university sustainability.

Appalachian and Fudan university libraries to participate in international exchange

Fudansigning_t.jpgBOONE—Appalachian State University’s Belk Library and Information Commons and Fudan University Library in Shanghai, China, have agreed to participate in future exchanges of librarians, culture and information.

New centers established at Appalachian promote economic outreach

BOONE—Two new centers will be established at Appalachian State University following approval by the university’s board of trustees during their June 6 meeting.

They are the Appalachian Center for Mountain and Steep Slope Viticulture and the Center for Economic Research and Policy Analysis.

Department of Sociology and Social Work to become two academic departments July 1

BOONE—Beginning July 1, the Department of Sociology and Social Work at Appalachian State University will become two separate departments.

Business faculty at Appalachian honored for excellence in teaching, research and service

Dr. Claudia Kelley received the Award for Excellence in Teaching; Dr. David Dickinson was honored for his research contributions; and the award for excellence in service was presented to Dr. Todd Cherry. Jan Woods was honored as the outstanding non-tenure track faculty member.

Entrepreneurs, electricians, contractors and others learned about the latest in photovoltaic technology during a two-day workshop hosted by Appalachian State University’s Department of Technology conducted by John Hardwick with Sharp Solar Systems.
