Appalachian awards 11 students Plemmons Scholarships for 2017-2018

BOONE, N.C.—Eleven first-year students at Appalachian State University have been awarded Plemmons Leadership Scholarships. Plemmons Scholars have shown outstanding leadership in either their high schools or communities.

Communication faculty member receives Wade H. Hargrove Community Leadership Award

BOONE, N.C.—Dan “Vallie” Hill, practitioner-in-residence in the Department of Communication at Appalachian State University and WASU-FM manager, was awarded the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters (NCAB) 2017 Wade H. Hargrove Community Leadership Award in June at the annual awards luncheon in Durham. The award is given to North Carolina broadcasters who have demonstrated a commitment to public service in their communities.

Appalachian State solar vehicle places second in international track race

AUSTIN, TX.—Solar-powered Appalachian State University’s Team Sunergy took second place at the 2017 Formula Sun Grand Prix after thousands of hours of preparation and three days of intense strategy and track racing. The annual race, which took place this year on the Circuit of The Americas track in Austin, is an international collegiate endurance competition that sets the standards for and tests the limits of solar vehicle technology.

Cindy Barr named associate vice chancellor for enrollment management at Appalachian

BOONE, N.C.—Cynthia Lawrence “Cindy” Barr will be the next associate vice chancellor for enrollment management at Appalachian State University. She will begin work Aug. 1, having most recently served as vice president of enrollment at Catawba College.

College of Arts and Sciences names Outstanding Student Teacher of the Year for 2016-17

Huff appointed Dean of the Beaver College of Health Services

BOONE, N.C.—Dr. Marie Huff, has been named dean of the Beaver College of Health Sciences at Appalachian State University. She was most recently dean of the College of Health and Human Services at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.  She begins her duties August 1, 2017.
