Registration open for Black Saturday 5K to be held Sept. 23

BOONE, N.C.—Registration is open for the annual Black Saturday 5K Run/Walk taking place Saturday, Sept. 23. Proceeds benefit the Recreation Management Scholarship Endowment of the recreation management program in the Beaver College of Health Sciences at Appalachian State University.

Appalachian student receives scholarship from the USA Cycling Foundation, engages community in biking

BOONE, N.C.—An Appalachian State University student who helped organize the first women’s cycling event in the Boone area in the summer of 2016 has been awarded the women’s Joshua Kuck Memorial Scholarship from the USA Cycling Foundation.

Physical Education classes available for home school students at Varsity Gymnasium

BOONE—Appalachian State University’s Health and Physical Education (HPE) Program announces the start of its Home School Physical Education Program for the 2016-17 academic year. Classes for home-schooled pupils will meet from 1- 1:50 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday in the university’s Varsity Gymnasium. Students ages 5 to 12 can participate at an annual cost of $30 per child. Registration is underway and students can be enrolled as long as slots are available.
