BOONE—Jason Le, a sophomore from North Wilkesboro who is majoring in computer information systems in the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University, is spending the current academic year studying at Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, Japan.

BOONE—Appalachian State University’s Walker College of Business will offer two new degree programs to meet a growing demand by businesses and organizations for graduates with technological skills in supply chain management and data analytics.

Walker College of Business faculty awarded professorships

BOONE—Walker College of Business faculty Pete Groothuis, William M. Baker, Chris McNeil, Pia Albinsson, Dana Clark, Dave McEvoy and Joseph Cazier have been awarded professorships at Appalachian State University.

BOONE—Professor Al Harris from Appalachian State University’s Department of Computer Information Systems and Supply Chain Management has received the Walker College of Business’s Lifetime Achievement Award for devoting his career to providing students with international opportunities.

BOONE—China, Ethiopia, Poland and Austria are the upcoming destinations for four professors at Appalachian State University. Each has received a Fulbright award to teach and/or conduct research at their host institution.

Harris receives Distinguished Information Systems Educator Award

BOONE—Dr. Al Harris, a professor in the Department of Computer Information Systems and Supply Chain Management at Appalachian State University, has received the 2014 Distinguished Information Systems Educator Award from the Association of Information Technology Professionals Education Special Interest Group (AITP-EDSIG).

Appalachian business faculty and staff honored for excellence

BOONE—Four faculty members and one staff member in Appalachian State University’s Walker College of Business have received the 2014 Sywassink Award for Excellence. The award recognizes excellence in teaching, service, research and contributions by a non-tenure track faculty member and a staff member.

Hunsinger receives UNC Board of Governors Teaching Award

BOONE—Dr. Scott Hunsinger from Appalachian State University has received a UNC Board of Governors Excellence in Teaching Award. He will receive a commemorative bronze medallion and a $7,500 cash prize. Established by the Board of Governors in 1994 to underscore the importance of teaching and to reward good teaching across the UNC system, the awards are given annually to a tenured faculty member from each UNC campus. Winners must have taught at their present institutions at least seven years. No one may receive the award more than once.
