Wells Fargo economist to speak March 31 at Appalachian

BOONE, N.C.—John Silvia, chief economist for Wells Fargo, will be the speaker at this spring’s Harlan E. Boyles Distinguished Lecture at Appalachian State University, to be held Friday, March 31, at 3 p.m. in Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts on campus. A reception in the lobby will follow.

Broyhill Fellows team wins regional research challenge

BOONE, N.C.—For the sixth year running, a team of students from Appalachian State University’s Walker College of Business has won the regional CFA Institute Research Challenge, sponsored by CFA Society North Carolina (Chartered Financial Analysts).

Appalachian economics students place first in regional and district College Fed Challenge, earn honorable mention in finals

BOONE, N.C.—Economics students from the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University received an honorable mention, as did Princeton University and University of Chicago, for their work in the 13th annual national College Fed Challenge. The Federal Reserve System Board of Governors announced the awards Dec. 1. The team placed first in their Regional and District competitions before moving on to the finals in Washington, D.C.
