BOONE—More than 200 people from Appalachian State University and the Boone community volunteered at Playhouse Buildfest, a signature event of the North Carolina Science Festival.

Appalachian to affiliate with Workers Rights Consortium on licensed apparel

BOONE—Appalachian State University has decided to affiliate with the Workers Rights Consortium (WRC), a group that collaborates with workers, non-governmental organizations and other colleges and universities to improve the conditions of workers producing licensed collegiate apparel.

BOONE—Appalachian State University’s six commencement ceremonies began Friday, May 13, with Chancellor Sheri N. Everts telling graduates, “Thank you for being part of our Appalachian community. Please know you will always be a part of this great university, as you are our most enduring legacy.”

Ready to lead: Appalachian students commissioned as military officers

BOONE—Thirteen cadets were commissioned as second lieutenants at a ceremony held May 13 on campus. The students are members of Appalachian State University’s Mountaineer Battalion, the Department of Military Science and Leadership’s ROTC program.

Dr. Heather Hulburt Norris named dean of the Walker College of Business

BOONE—Dr. Heather Hulburt Norris has been named dean of Appalachian State University’s Walker College of Business after a national search. She begins her duties July 1, 2016.

BOONE—Two individuals have been selected for dean positions at Appalachian State University, beginning July 1. They are Phyllis Kloda, College of Fine and Applied Arts and Dr. Melba Spooner, Reich College of Education.
