Juniors and seniors at Appalachian, Catawba Valley Community College, East Carolina University, High Point University, Kendall College of Art and Design, Mississippi State University, North Carolina State University and Virginia Tech are eligible to apply for the scholarship.

Sweeny is one of five students to receive the scholarship this year. She and other recipients were selected by a scholarship committee comprised of home furnishings industry executives.

The application process requires candidates to complete an extensive questionnaire, write a personal essay, obtain instructors’ recommendations and provide a college transcript that shows exceptional academic achievement. Ninety-two full scholarships have been awarded in the program’s 15-year existence.
