Appalachian to present low brass studio recital April 28

BOONE—Appalachian State University will present a low brass studio recital Thursday, April 28, at 6 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Recital Hall. Admission is free.

The recital will feature students of Hayes School of Music professors Drew Leslie and Beth Wiese.

The recital will begin with “Four Kuehn (Keen) Guys” by Lew Gillis, performed by four students on bass trombones.

Piano and tuba students will then perform “Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra” by Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Then, trombone and piano students will perform “Concerto for Trombone” by Nickolai Rimsky-Korsakov and “Romance for Trombone and Piano” by Axel Jorgenson.

Euphonium and tuba students will perform “Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral” by Richard Wagner, followed by the third movement of “Concertino for Trombone and Orchestra” by Lars-Erik Larsson, performed by piano and trombone students.

The recital will conclude with “Brass Quintet No. 1, Op. 5” by Victor Ewald, performed by students on trumpet, horn, trombone and tuba.
