Collegium Musicum to perform Thursday, April 7, at 8 p.m.

BOONE—Members of Collegium Musicum at Appalachian State University will perform on Thursday, April 7, at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.

Collegium Musicum members study and perform music from the 16th-18th centuries, with the aim of introducing listeners and performers to important issues of historical performance practice for music as it is played, danced or sung.

Performers in the collegium use and learn skills on both their own instruments and on reproductions of period instruments from the Hayes School of Music’s collection of recorders, string instruments with Baroque bows and gut strings, and various early wind and brass instruments.

The program begins with “Suite à 5, Trio Sonata in F major, Op. 5, No. 6” and “Concerto Grosso in B-flat Major, Op. 6, No. 7” by Handel.

Next on the program is “Wir Danken, BWV 134” by Bach.

Ensemble members also will perform “Chaconne” by Jean-Baptiste Lully, “Sarabande” by Marin Marais, “Minuet” by Marin Marais and “Gigue” by Jean-Baptiste Lully.

Also on the program is “A Little Ado” composed by William Shakespeare and Thomas Morley.

The last piece of the night will be “Ich habe genug, BWV 82” by Bach.
