Scholarship recital held Jan. 28 at the Hayes School of Music

BOONE—Seven scholarship recipients from the Hayes School of Music will perform during the annual Endowed Scholarship Recital Thursday, Jan. 28. The free performance begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Recital Hall at Appalachian State University.

Students performing are recipients of the Hayes Young Artist Scholarship, the Hayes Endowed Scholarship, the White Wind Scholarship and Elmer White Jazz Trumpet Scholarship.

The students are:

Rachel Davis, a bassoonist and junior music therapy major, will perform two movements from Carl Maria von Weber’s “Bassoon Concerto in F major, Op.75.” Davis is a Hayes Young Artist Scholarship recipient.

Brynn MacKenzie, a flutist and sophomore music performance major, will perform the first movement from Carl Reinecke’s “Flute Concerto in D major.” MacKenzie is a White Wind Scholarship recipient. The scholarship was established by professor emerita Lynn White and her late husband, Elmer. Both were professors in the Hayes School of Music.

Cara Conway is a flutist and senior music performance major. She also is a Hayes Endowed Scholarship recipient. Conway will perform “Herdsmaiden’s Dance” by Hugo Alfven.
Grayson Milholin, a vocalist and freshman music performance and music education major. Milholin also received a Hayes Young Artist Scholarship. He will sing Gerald Finzi’s “Come Away with Me,” Robert Schumann’s “In der Fremde” and Handel’s “Si tra i ceppi.”

Andres Orench, a saxophonist and senior music education major, received a White Wind Scholarship. He will perform Eugene Bozza’s “Improvisation et Caprice.”

Nicholas Pressley is a trumpet player and senior music education major. He received a Dr. Elmer White Memorial Jazz Trumpet Scholarship and White Wind Scholarship. Pressley will perform Ray Noble’s “The Very Thought of You.”

Clair Williams is a clarinetist and sophomore music education major. She will perform “Concertino for Clarinet” by Gaetano Donizetti. Williams received a White Wind Scholarship.
