Choral works from around the globe performed Nov. 6

BOONE—A Nov. 6 performance by the University Singers and Chamber Singers from the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University will take the audience on a global excursion through the choral works by international composers.

The program takes place in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall beginning at 8 p.m.

The University Singers open the performance with the festive a cappella piece “Cry Out and Shout” by Norwegian composer Knut Nystedt. They also will perform Swiss composer Ivo Antognini’s “Beati omnes,” American composer Roger Ames’ arrangement of “Down by the Riverside” and Spanish composer Joaquín Turina’s “Allegro vivo.”

The Chamber Singers will perform a madrigal by Italian composer Rossino Mantovano and “Come Again! Sweet Love Doth Now Invite” by English Renaissance composer John Dowland. They also will perform Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo’s “Ubi caritas.”

Compositions by American composers Renè Clausen, Eric Nelson and Mack Wilberg and Cuban composer Leo Brouwer also will be performed.

The singers are directed by Stephen M. Hopkins.
