Works by Britten and Brahms featured in Oct. 13 recital

BOONE—Oboist Alicia Chapman and clarinetist Douglas Miller will perform works by Benjamin Britten and Johannes Brahms during a Hayes School of Music faculty recital Oct. 13 in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall at Appalachian State University. The 8 p.m. recital is free and open to the public.

Rosenberg honored by Global Science and Technology Forum

BOONE—Professor Ed Rosenberg, director of Appalachian State University’s gerontology program, and two colleagues from Thailand were honored recently at the 5th annual Political Science, Sociology and International Relations Conference held in Bangkok.

Pianist Rodney Reynerson performs Oct. 11

BOONE—Works by Grieg, Chopin, Ravel, Gershwin and ter Veldhius will be performed during an Oct. 11 recital by pianist Rodney Reynerson. The free event begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall at Appalachian State University.

Coffee with a Cop held Oct. 7 in Trivette Hall

BOONE—Appalachian State University students, faculty and staff are invited to meet university police officers to discuss community issues, build relationships and drink a free cup of coffee during Coffee with a Cop Oct. 7 from 9 to 11 a.m. in Trivette Dining Hall’s foyer.

Homecoming location changes

BOONE—Due to inclement weather, three Friday night homecoming events at Appalachian State University have been moved from outdoor locations to the Holmes Convocation Center.

Adcock, Roess and Barnes elected to positions on Appalachian’s Board of Trustees

BOONE—Bradley T. Adcock of Cary, Alice Roess of Blowing Rock have each been re-elected to one-year terms as officers of the board. Adcock will continue as chairman of the board and Roess was re-elected vice chair. Jimmy Barnes of Raleigh was elected to a one-year term as secretary of the board.

Commemoration of Integration will be streamed via the Internet

BOONE—Appalachian State University’s Commemoration of Integration ceremony Oct. 2 will be available for view at http://streaming.appstate.edu/commemoration. The stream will begin at 12:30 p.m.

The ceremony, to be held in the Holmes Convocation Center, is designed to inform, educate and provide deserved recognition and acknowledgement to the historic integration at Appalachian The program will honor former students and faculty who played a role during this time.

Campus emergency siren test conducted Oct. 7

BOONE—Appalachian State University will test its campus-wide siren warning system Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 11:55 a.m.

The campus drill also will include a recorded message indicating the beginning and end of the test.

Appalachian commemorates integration with Oct. 2 ceremony

BOONE—Imagine you are attending Appalachian State University in the spring of 1965. Enrollment is just shy of 3,060 students. A total of 369 are enrolled in graduate school.

Now imagine you are an African-American attending what was then Appalachian State Teachers College as integration was spreading across the South.
