Pope has been director of undergraduate admissions at Tennessee Tech University since 2012. He was assistant director of admissions there from 2007-12, and also has worked as an undergraduate admissions counselor at Tennessee Tech.

“With his years of experience directing an admissions office, Alexis is positioned to make an easy transition into this role at Appalachian,” said Susan Davies, associate vice chancellor for enrollment management. “With his innovative leadership, our admissions office will be able to continue its efforts to improve the academic and diversity profile of our new student class. He demonstrates a commitment to recruit best-fit students who will be retained and graduate from Appalachian.”

At Appalachian, Pope will report to the associate vice chancellor for enrollment management. He will manage an office that includes 25 full-time staff members.

Among his job duties, Pope will lead admissions and office policy development and implementation and manage financial resources. He also will develop and direct implementation of strategic recruitment plans to expand recruitment and enrollment of high-achieving, underrepresented minority, and first-generation college students.

Additional responsibilities include promoting interactions with prospective students and their families by developing programs and creative initiatives to engage Appalachian faculty, staff, students, alumni, trustees and parents in the enrollment effort, in addition to other admissions office activities.

Pope is a candidate for an Ed.D. in higher education administration at Tennessee State University. In 2013 he completed the College Board Enrollment Leadership Academy. He earned a Master of Science degree in educational leadership and a bachelor’s degree in education from Tennessee Tech University.
