Participants sought for research about nonresident fathers of children

BOONE—Researchers from Appalachian State University’s Department of Recreation Management and Physical Education are conducting research about nonresident fathers’ interaction recreationally with their children.

The research team, led by Assistant Professor Iryna Sharaievska, is looking for African-American and Caucasian nonresident fathers of a child, between 6 and 18 years old, who do not live with their children on a regular basis (no more than four days a week).

The purpose of the study is to learn about fathers’ free time with their child and use of mobile technology for parenting purposes. Volunteers would participate in interview that would last about 45 minutes to an hour. The interview will be conducted in person at a convenient location or over the phone.

All information collected during this study will be kept confidential, and personal information and name as well as personal information of the children will not be revealed. Participation in this study is also voluntary and volunteers can stop at any point if they change their mind.

Participants will receive a $25 Amazon gift card.

If you are interested in participation or would like to learn more about it, contact Iryna Sharaievska at or 828-262-6327.

This study has been approved by Appalachian’s Institutional Review Board in the Office for Human Research Protection.
