Grant Wallace Band performs March 26

BOONE—The Grant Wallace Band will perform March 26 at Appalachian State University. The free performance begins at 6 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Recital Hall. The public is welcome.

Talk on combating anti-Semitism in Europe presented March 25

BOONE—Rabbi Andrew Baker will speak on “Combating Anti-Semitism in a Changing Europe: Confronting Old Demons and New Threats” March 25 at 7 p.m. in Belk Library and Information Commons Room 114 at Appalachian State University. His talk is sponsored by the university’s Center for Judaic, Holocaust, and Peace Studies as part of its Spring Semester Forum Speaker series. The public is invited to attend.

Spring Appalachian Dance Ensemble to be held March 25 – 28

BOONE—The Appalachian State University Department of Theatre and Dance presents the 2015 Spring Appalachian Dance Ensemble (SADE), the major dance event of this semester. The production runs Wednesday, March 25, through Saturday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Valborg Theatre on the Appalachian campus.

BOONE—Appalachian State University’s award-winning #iBackAPP Day, a 24-hour fund drive coordinated by The Appalachian Fund, is set to return May 1.

Annual People of the Planet Soccer Tournament held April 12

BOONE—The 9th Annual People of the Planet Soccer Tournament will be held Sunday, April 12, at the Watauga High School turf fields. The event is a collaboration between Appalachian State University and Watauga High School to celebrate the community’s cultural diversity. The tournament also is part of the annual Diversity Celebration held at Appalachian. Admission is free.

‘Guyland’ author Michael Kimmel lectures at Appalachian April 14

BOONE—Dr. Michael Kimmel will present the lecture “Guyland: The Perilous World Where Boys Become Men” Tuesday, April 14, at Appalachian State University.

Coffee with a Cop held April 2

BOONE—University Police at Appalachian State University invite students, faculty and staff to meet officers and discuss community issues, build relationships and drink a free cup of coffee during Coffee with a Cop April 2. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Roess Dining Hall.

Economics scholar Deirdre N. McCloskey to speak at Appalachian’s world history and economics conference

BOONE—Dr. Deirdre N. McCloskey will be the keynote speaker at the Appalachian Spring – Tenth Annual Conference in World History and Economics held April 10-11 at Appalachian State University.

Campus emergency siren test conducted April 1

BOONE—Appalachian State University will test its campus-wide siren warning system Wednesday, April 1, at 11:55 a.m. Tests are normally conducted on the first Wednesday of the month. The tone used for the monthly tests is not the same tone used for an actual emergency.
