Brass ensembles perform March 31 in Broyhill Music Center

BOONE—Brass ensembles from Appalachian State University will perform classical and contemporary works during a March 31 performance beginning at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall.

Musical fun presented March 30

BOONE—Faculty from the Hayes School of Music will present “An Evening of Musical Merriment and Foolishness!” March 30 at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall at Appalachian State University. Admission is free.

Women’s choral ensembles perform March 28

BOONE—A women’s choral symposium will be held Saturday, March 28, at 5 p.m. in the chapel of Boone First Baptist Church. The symposium will feature the Appalachian Treble Choir from Appalachian State University’s Hayes School of Music and N.C. State University’s women’s choir Vox Accalia.

“The Marriage of Figaro” performed March 26-29 at Appalachian

BOONE—The Appalachian Opera Theatre will present Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” March 26-28 at 8 p.m. and March 29 at 2 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for students and available at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts.

Reading Clinic named for Reich College of Education benefactor Pat A. Anderson

BOONE—A reading clinic at Appalachian State University that helps children improve their reading skills has been named in honor of university benefactor Pat A. Anderson of Taylorsville.

A major contribution to the clinic was made by Anderson’s daughters through the TSH Charitable Foundation to honor their mother.

“Assassins” musical to be presented April 2

BOONE—Marking the 150th anniversary of the April 1865 assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, the Appalachian Musical Theatre Ensemble (AMTE) presents the multi-award winning musical “Assassins” by Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman. The single performance takes place at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, in the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts on the Appalachian State University campus.

Spring Open House scheduled for April 18

BOONE—High school students and prospective transfer students are invited to learn about academics and campus life at Appalachian State University during its Spring Open House on Saturday, April 18. The event is sponsored by the Office of Admissions.

Lecture on ‘Coping with the Cascading Crises of Our World’ presented March 26

BOONE—Author, activist and journalism professor Robert Jensen will speak on “Coping with the Cascading Crises of Our World” Thursday, March 26, at 7 p.m. in Plemmons Student Union’s Blue Ridge Ballroom at Appalachian State University.

Investment in Appalachian yielded a 15.9 percent ROI in new income, economic value study shows

BOONE—Spend a dollar on education at Appalachian State University and that dollar will yield another $6.40 in benefits to taxpayers, or a 15.9 percent return on investment, according to an economic impact value of higher education conducted by the Idaho-based company Economic Modeling Specialists International (EMSI) for the University of North Carolina system.
