BOONE—D. Terry Rawls will join Appalachian State University March 2 as executive director of educational outreach and summer programs. Rawls will be replacing Mary Englebert who retired in December 2014.
He will be responsible for the activities, programs, and operations of the division, including the offices of distance education, conference and camp services and summer sessions and the North Carolina Center for Engineering Technologies. He also will serve as the director of distance education.
Rawls has been president of Strategic Transitions Group Inc. since 2013.
He was president of Patten University, an online degree-granting institution, from 2012-13. He was senior vice president and chief academic officer of Heald College, a for-profit institution, from 2010-12. He also has served as a vice chancellor at Jones International University and as president and academic dean of The College for Public Leadership, and has held various academic posts at Central Michigan University.
Rawls has an Ed.D. in counselor education and counseling from Idaho State University, an M.Ed. from Georgia State University and a bachelor of science degree from the University of Iowa.
