Ludwig elected to the Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies Board of Directors

BOONE—Dr. Timothy Ludwig, a professor in Appalachian State University’s Department of Psychology, has been elected to a three-year term on the Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies™ Board of Directors.

He also serves on the center’s accreditation board that reviews best safety practices and offers independent, objective feedback.

The Cambridge Center reaches thousands of people in need of behavioral solutions, such as helping children with autism, coping with aging or providing safer work environments in oil refineries.

Ludwig has been a member of Appalachian’s faculty since 1994. He is a former director of the psychology department’s master’s degree program in industrial-organization psychology and human resource management program. His teaching and research focus on industrial-organizational psychology, organizational development and applied behavior management.

Ludwig is past editor of the Journal of Organizational Behavior Management. He is the author of dozens of scholarly articles that empirically document the successes of methods to improve safety and quality in industry through behavior-based management.

His book “Intervening to Improve the Safety of Occupational Driving” reviews 10 years of behavior-based safety in the product delivery industry. His most recent books include “Best-in-Class Safety” that benchmarks how companies with the best safety records succeed, and “Behavioral Systems: Understanding Complexity in Organizations” co-edited by Ludwig with contributions from 15 top scholars and practitioners in the field of behavior systems analysis.

Ludwig’s honors include being named to Industrial Safety & Hygiene News’ Power 101 Safety Leaders list in 2012. He received the Organizational Behavior Management Network’s Outstanding Contribution Award (2010), a University of North Carolina Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teach (2006), Appalachian’s College of Arts and Sciences Academy of Outstanding Teachers (2006) and the University Deans Distinguished Graduate Faculty Award (2004).

The Cambridge Center is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization based in Massachusetts whose mission since 1981 is to advance the scientific study of behavior and its humane application to the solution of practical problems, including the prevention and relief of human suffering.

Ludwig is among 75 trustees and 125 advisors representing scientists, university faculty and behavioral psychologists throughout the U.S. and abroad. The group of volunteers contributes expertise and time to help the center reach those seeking to solve problems in the home, school, community and the workplace.
