Evening of encores performed Sept. 9

BOONE—If you have a favorite classical music composition for piano, voice or woodwinds, or perhaps a movie theme, you are in luck.

Faculty from the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University will perform audience favorites during “An Evening of Encores” Sept. 9 at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free and the public is invited.

The program will open with “Toccata,” by John Weaver, performed by organist Joby Bell. Mezzo-soprano Priscilla Porterfield and pianist Bair Shagdaron will team up for three works by Samuel Barber. Rodney Reynerson will perform Chopin’s “Nocturne in C-sharp Minor, Op. 27, No. 1.”

Works for cello will be performed by Corinne Cassini. Douglas James will be featured on classical guitar. Alto saxophonist Scott Kallestad will perform “Joy Ride” from the movie “Catch Me If you Can.”

Other faculty featured on the program are Alicia Chapman, oboe, Susan Slingland, piano, Hiu-Wah Au, piano, Douglas Miller, E-flat clarinet, Jon Beebe, bassoon, Christina Hayes, piano, John Fowler, tenor, Keith McCutchen, piano and Rob Falvo, percussion.
