Summer Symposium on Remembering the Holocaust held July 12-18 at Appalachian

BOONE—The 13th Annual Martin and Doris Rosen Summer Symposium on Remembering the Holocaust will be held July 12-18 at Appalachian State University’s Plemmons Student Union. The event is named for symposium benefactors, Doris Rosen and the late Martin Rosen.

New York Times bestselling author Frances Mayes visits Appalachian July 24

Mayes is the 2014 Carol Grotnes Belk Distinguished Lecturer

BOONE—Although many know Frances Mayes from the international bestselling memoir and subsequent film “Under the Tuscan Sun” set in Italy, Mayes is first a Southerner. Currently splitting her time between homes in Italy and North Carolina, Mayes will visit the High Country as the Carol Grotnes Belk Distinguished Lecturer July 24 at Appalachian State University. The lecture is sponsored by University Libraries and also is part of An Appalachian Summer Festival.

Norris named interim dean in Appalachian’s business college

BOONE—Dr. Heather Hulburt Norris has been named interim dean of the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University.

Meador named chair of Appalachian’s Department of Art

BOONE—Clifton Meador has been named chair of the Department of Art in Appalachian State University’s College of Fine and Applied Arts.

Everts begins first day as Appalachian’s seventh leader

BOONE—Dr. Sheri N. Everts began her tenure July 1 as Appalachian State University’s seventh leader. Her first day in office included a listening breakfast with representatives from Appalachian’s Student Government Association, Faculty Senate and Staff Senate.
