Event honoring Chancellor and Mrs. Peacock held June 27

BOONE—Community members are invited to attend a celebration honoring Chancellor and Mrs. Kenneth E. Peacock Friday, June 27, at 8 p.m. in the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts on campus.

Appalachian faculty to be featured on BBC Radio Wales

BOONE—Faculty from the Center for Appalachian Studies at Appalachian State University were interviewed on BBC Radio Wales about their participation in an international exchange between coal mining regions of South Wales and Central Appalachia.

Bond receives Lewis R. Holding Award from NC Community Foundation

RALEIGH—Dr. Bettie Bond has received the Lewis R. Holding Philanthropic Leadership Award for 2014, according to Stuart Dorsett, chairman of the board of directors of the North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF).

STOP! DROP! & ROLL! 5K held July 5

BOONE—The Watauga County Firefighters Association is hosting the 2nd Annual Stop! Drop! And Roll! 5K run/walk Saturday, July 5. The fundraising event, open for all ages and fitness levels, will start at 8 a.m. at Boone Fire Department Station 2 located on State Farm Road.

Powell, Croom and Jaynes honored by Appalachian Alumni Association

BOONE—Three individuals who have distinguished themselves in their careers or through their service to Appalachian State University have been honored by the Appalachian Alumni Association.

Jayne named Appalachian’s chief diversity officer

BOONE—Bindu Kolli Jayne has been named chief diversity officer and associate vice chancellor for equity, diversity and compliance at Appalachian State University.

Bob Inman, journalist turned playwright, poet and novelist, to speak at Appalachian

BOONE—Robert “Bob” Inman, a favorite Southern author, will read from his fifth and latest novel, “The Governor’s Lady,” Thursday, June 19, at 3:30 p.m. at Appalachian State University. The event will be held in Belk Library and information Commons Room 421 as part of the Summer Author Series sponsored by Appalachian State University Libraries and the Richard T. Barker Friends of the Library Board.

Appalachian included in Princeton Review’s 2014 “Guide to 332 Green Colleges”

BOONE—Appalachian State University is among the most environmentally responsible colleges listed in “The Princeton Review’s Guide to 332 Green Colleges: 2014 Edition.” The guide was created in collaboration with the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) (http://www.usgbc.org).

Poole named dean of Appalachian’s graduate school

BOONE—Following a national search, Dr. Max C. Poole has been named dean of the Cratis D. Williams Graduate School at Appalachian State University. He will begin his work at Appalachian in August.

Poole replaces Dr. Edelma Huntley who has served as dean of the graduate school since 2005 and is retiring at the end of June.
