Robin Groce named interim dean of Appalachian’s Reich College of Education

BOONE—Associate Professor Robin Groce has been named interim dean of the Reich College of Education at Appalachian State University for the 2014-15 academic year. Her appointment is effective July 1.

Groce joined the faculty in the college’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction in 2004 and was named assistant dean of field experiences in 2011. As assistant dean, she was responsible for organizing and supervising student teaching, international student teaching and field placements.

“I look forward to working closely with Dr. Groce to continue to grow excellence in the Reich College of Education,” said Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Lori S. Gonzalez.
Gonzalez said the university would begin a search to fill the dean position this fall.

Groce has held academic positions at Mississippi State University, the University of Texas at Tyler and Texas A&M University. She also taught in the public schools in Texas. Her doctorate, master’s degree and bachelor’s degree are from Texas A&M.

Her research has been published in Social Studies and the Young Learner; Education, Research, and Perspectives; and Reading Improvement. She also has presented papers at professional conferences, including the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, American Educational Research Association and Annual Conference on Higher Education Pedagogy.
