Repertory orchestra and concert band perform April 27

BOONE—The Appalachian Repertory Orchestra and the Appalachian Concert Band will perform April 27 in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall at Appalachian State University. Admission is free.

The repertory orchestra opens the afternoon’s performance at 2 p.m. with Richard Wagner’s “Entrance and March of the Guest” from “Tannhauser.” Will Selle is the conductor.

The orchestra also will perform “Andante cantabile” from Tchaikovsky’s “String Quartet in D Major, Op. 11,” and Mozart’s “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.”

The concert band will open its portion of the concert with Puccini’s “La Tregenda” conducted by graduate student Justin Hensley.

Associate Professor John Stanley Ross will conduct “Blessed Are They” by Brahms. Graduate student Brooke Humfeld will conduct John Mackey’s “Foundry.” Hensley also will conduct Fred J. Allen’s “Fantasy on Barbara Allen.”

The concert band’s program will conclude with “Fandango” by Joseph Turrin featuring trumpeter James Stokes and trombonist Drew Leslie, both from the Hayes School of Music faculty. Brooke Humfeld will conduct the band.
