Appalachian’s chancellor shares traits that lead to success in leadership

BOONE—Seize the opportunities that come your way. That advice was among the traits of successful leadership shared by Chancellor Kenneth E. Peacock March 21 during the Harlan E. Boyles Distinguish CEO Lecture. The lecture series is presented by Appalachian State University’s Walker College of Business.

Celebration of Student Research and Creative Endeavors to be held April 10

BOONE—The 17th Annual Celebration of Student Research and Creative Endeavors will be held at Appalachian State University Thursday, April 10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the fourth floor of Plemmons Student Union. The public is invited.

Renewable energy workshops begin April 11 at Appalachian

BOONE—A series of workshops focusing on renewable energy and other topics will be held beginning in April at Appalachian State University. The workshops are sponsored by the Appalachian Energy Center.

Tony Award-winning musical “Spring Awakening” opens March 29

SpringAwakening1_t.jpgBOONE—The eight-time Tony Award-winning musical “Spring Awakening,” with music by Duncan Sheik and book by Steven Sater, will be presented March 29-30 at Appalachian State University. It is the High Country premiere of the pop rock musical that stormed Broadway in 2007. It is being produced by the Appalachian Musical Theatre Ensemble, the campus organization that previously staged successful productions of “Rent,” “Godspell,” and “The Rocky Horror Show.”

Lectures on mountain regions of Ukraine and Spain presented March 26

BOONE—Scholars from Ukraine and Spain will present lectures on mountain regions in their home countries Wednesday, March 26, from 2-5 p.m. in Plemmons Student Union’s Table Rock Room at Appalachian State University. The final lecture will compare literary representations of Andalusia and Appalachia.

Violinist Stefan Czermak performs March 27 at Appalachian

BOONE—Violinist Stefan Czermak will perform works by Mozart, Schumann, Chopin and other composers during a guest recital March 27 at Appalachian State University.
Pianist Bair Shagdaron will accompany Czermak in the 8 p.m. performance in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. The public is invited.

Communication student wins BEA Festival of Media Arts award

BOONE—The creativity of a senior in Appalachian State University’s Department of Communication has garnered honors from the 2014 Broadcast Education Association’s Festival of Media Arts.

Works for organ performed March 25

BOONE—Organist Joby Bell will perform works by Bach, Franck and others during a March 25 performance at Appalachian State University. The program begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.

Poetry sharing circle for transfer and non-traditional student writers held March 31

BOONE—Transfer and non-traditional student creative writers at Appalachian State University are invited to a poetry sharing circle Monday, March 31, from 5-6:30 p.m. in the third floor faculty lounge in Sanford Hall. Refreshments will be provided.
