Eating Disorders Awareness Week is Feb. 24-March 2

Spring Appalachian Dance Ensemble premieres eight originals, features guest choreographer

BOONE—The Appalachian State University Department of Theatre and Dance presents the Spring Appalachian Dance Ensemble (SADE) in Valborg Theatre on campus at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, through Saturday, March 1. This popular event features artistic works by both undergraduate students and dance faculty.

Anthropologist works with Guatemalan leaders to preserve a town’s history and culture

BOONE—Timothy J. Smith, an assistant professor in the Department of Anthropology at Appalachian State University, has developed a special relationship during the past 17 years with the predominantly indigenous town of Sololá, Guatemala.

Concerto-aria winners to join Appalachian Symphony Orchestra for second performance

BOONE—Winners of last fall’s concerto-aria competition in the Hayes School of Music will reprise an earlier performance with the Appalachian Symphony Orchestra for a concert Feb. 28 held as part of the Western Regional Honors Orchestra clinic held on campus. Dr. Chung Park is the director.

Black Sheep Theatre premieres political satire

BOONE—Black Sheep Theatre will perform Dennis Bohr’s newest play, “BROWN: Jesus from Another Planet,” Friday, Feb. 28, and Saturday, March 1, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, March 2, at 2 p.m. in I.G. Greer Arena Theatre on Appalachian State University’s campus. Admission is $5 at the door.

Punch Brothers return to Appalachian March 19

BOONE—Punch Brothers with Aoife O’Donovan will perform at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts at Appalachian State University on March 19 at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m.

BOONE—Musical masterpieces, both from the classical and concert band repertoire, will be performed Feb. 24 at 8 p.m. at Appalachian State University.

BOONE—Students from Appalachian State University’s Hayes School of Music will present a recital Feb. 23 as part of the National Association of Schools of Music’s (NASM) accreditation site visit.
