Old-Time Fiddlers Convention to be held Feb. 7-8

BOONE—The Appalachian Heritage Council presents the sixth annual Old-Time Fiddler’s Convention Feb. 7-8 in the Appalachian State University’s Plemmons Student Union.

The convention celebrates the rich musical and cultural history of Appalachia and will offer workshops, a handmade market, music competitions, and a concert to end the festivities.

The convention will kick-off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, at Legends Night Club with a dance performance by the Green Grass Cloggers, featuring the Spring Chickens band.

On Saturday, Feb. 8, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., a variety of luthier workshops, lectures, music and dances will be held in Plemmons Student Union. Adult competitions will take place in the Summit Trail Solarium (first floor) from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., with youth competitions held in Whitewater Café (second floor) from 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. All workshops for flatfoot dancing, banjo and fiddle will be held in Grandfather Ballroom (first floor) from 12-2:30 p.m.

The Handmade Market can be found in the student union’s International Hallway from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Convention-goers can learn about instrument making at the Luthiers Gathering in the Blue Ridge Ballroom from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The convention will conclude with a concert at 8 p.m. in Legends Night Club by The Crazy Water Crystals and The Sons of Bluegrass. Tickets for this show are $10 in advance for students or $12 at the door, and $12 in advance for the public or $15 at the door.
