Appalachian host Veterans Day ceremony Nov. 11

BOONE—Appalachian State University will host a Veterans Day ceremony Monday, Nov. 11, beginning at 7:30 a.m. The ceremony will be held at the Veterans Memorial located on the west side of Dougherty Administration Building.

Lt. Col. Gerald F. Harper Jr., U.S. Marine Corps (retired), will deliver the remarks.

Harper is the senior Marine instructor at the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program at Watauga High School.  A native of Georgia, he attended the University of Georgia in Athens and was commissioned a Marine Corps second lieutenant in 1986.

Harper served 21 years on active duty as an artillery officer. He completed multiple training and operational deployments, including service in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005-06.

A continental breakfast will follow in the Dougherty Administration Building lobby. The public is invited.
