Hayes School of Music Presents “Blazing Bassoons” Nov. 3

BOONE—The Hayes School of Music presents “Blazing Bassoons” Sunday, Nov. 3, at Appalachian State University. The performance begins at 4 p.m. in Rosen Concert Hall in Broyhill Music Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Students on bassoon will perform “Divertimento (“Chorale St. Antoni”)” by Joseph Haydn, “Spinning Song” by Albert Ellmenreich, featuring Benjamin Guy, Kayla Jorgensen, Erin Latz and Austin Nield, and “Quartet Fo[u]r Bassoons” by Bruce W. Tippette, featuring Drew Bradshaw, Robin Fearheiley, Rebecca Lambert and Alex Wilson.

The bassoonists will also perform “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” by Jerome Kern, featuring Benjamin Guy, Kayla Jorgenson, Matthew Kleberg and Erin Latz, and “Lazy Blues” by Jan Bach, featuring Bradshaw, Fearheiley, Jorgenson, Lambert and Wilson.

The last set of songs includes “Scarborough Fair” arranged by Young and “Blue Skies” by Irving Berlin.

The concert is conducted by the Hayes School of Music faculty conductors and graduate students and coached by Jon Beebe.
