BOONE—Family and friends of May graduates planning to attend ceremonies May 10-12 at Appalachian State University are advised to expect delays if traveling Hwy. 321 in Boone. A bridge replacement project is in progress near Boone Heights Drive, and a section of highway in this area has been reduced to one lane of traffic coming into and leaving Boone.
N.C. Department of Transportation officials suggest that motorists who would normally travel Hwy. 321 to campus consider alternate routes to access campus and avoid traffic delays associated with this construction project.
One option is to take the Blue Ridge Parkway from Hwy. 321 to Hwy. 421 or one of the Town of Boone streets that run parallel to Blowing Rock Road.
Widening of U.S. 321 from Blackberry Road (State Road 1500) in Caldwell County through Blowing Rock to Shoppes on the Parkway shopping center continues but is not expected to cause any motorist delays.
Motorists are urged to drive with caution in these road construction areas.
