Residence hall students “pull the plug” to reduce energy use

BOONE—Students living on campus at Appalachian State University reduced their energy consumption 3.1 percent or the equivalent of 26,421 kilowatt hours of electricity during the annual Battle of the Plug.

Ramsdell named American Council on Education Fellow

BOONE—Dr. Jeff Ramsdell, director of the Appalachian Energy Center and a professor in the Department of Technology and Environmental Design at Appalachian State University, is one of 50 individuals to receive an American Council on Education Fellowship for the 2013-14 academic year.

BOONE—Indian filmmaker Pankaj Rishi Kumar will screen two of his documentaries at Appalachian State University. Kumar’s visit to campus and the screenings are sponsored by the Department of Anthropology and the Office of International Education and Development. A discussion will follow each film.

BOONE—Student musicians from Appalachian State University’s Opera Theatre in the Hayes School of Music will perform the one-act operas “Dido and Aeneas” by Henry Purcell and “Bastien und Bastienne” by W.A. Mozart April 4-7.

LGBT Center presents reading of “8” March 26

BOONE—The LGBT Center at Appalachian State University will present a reading of Dustin Lance Black’s new play “8” on Tuesday, March 26. The presentation begins at 7 p.m. in Plemmons Student Union’s Parkway Ballroom. Admission is free.

Workshop series on renewable energy, building efficiency begins in April at Appalachian

BOONE—A series of workshops focusing on renewable energy, building efficiency, energy savings, green home certifications and the state energy code will begin in April at Appalachian State University.

Accept Your Body Week held March 18-22

BOONE—“Miss Representation,” a film exploring how the media’s misrepresentations of women have led to the underrepresentation of women in positions of power and influence, will be presented Tuesday, March 19, at 7 p.m. in the Beacon Heights Room of Appalachian State University’s Plemmons Student Union.
