BOONE—Guitarist Richard Miller and his Brazilian quartet Choro Da Manhã will perform March 18 at Appalachian State University. The free performance begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Recital Hall.
Choro (pronounced shore o) is a music genre derived from European, African and indigenous Brazilian cultures, rhythms, dance and song forms. It forms the basis for samba and bossa nova style and rhythm and can be heard in the works of Brazilian composers Heitor Villa-Lobos and Antonio Carlos Jobim.
Miller, a native of Rio de Janeiro, plays seven-string guitar in the quartet, along with musicians Zé Mauricio, percussion, Michael Zsoldos, saxophone and Jason Ennis, seven-string guitar.
Miller teaches at Columbia University in New York City.
