Death penalty series at Appalachian begins Feb. 25

BOONE—A series of programs addressing issues related to the death penalty is being held at Appalachian State University. All presentations begin at 6 p.m. in Room 114 Belk Library and Information Commons. The public is invited.

British history lecture presented March 21 at Appalachian

BOONE—Dr. Michael Turner, a member of the history faculty at Appalachian State University, will deliver the university’s annual lecture in British history on Thursday, March 21. He will speak on “The Struggle for Parliamentary Government in England” at 7 p.m. in Room 421 of Belk Library and Information Commons.

Registration opens for People of the Planet Soccer Tournament

BOONE—The 7th Annual People of the Planet Soccer Tournament will be held Sunday, April 7, at the Watauga High School turf fields. The tournament will celebrate Appalachian State University and community cultural diversity, and is part of the annual Diversity Celebration held on campus. Admission is free.

Campus alert system tested March 6

BOONE—Appalachian State University will conduct a test of its campus siren warning system Wed., March 6, at 11:55 a.m.

Jazz Ensemble I performs Feb. 27

BOONE—Take trumpets, trombones, saxophones and percussion, and add some Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane and Charlie Mingus and you have the right mix for a fun evening of jazz with Appalachian State University’s Jazz Ensemble I.

Spring Appalachian Dance Ensemble to be presented Feb. 27 – March 2

Features eight world premieres and an international choreographer

BOONE—The Appalachian State University Department of Theatre and Dance presents the Spring Appalachian Dance Ensemble (SADE) in the state-of-the-art Valborg Theatre Feb. 27 – March 2 at 7:30 p.m. Five student choreographers will showcase their work alongside pieces by faculty members Emily Daughtridge and Sherone Price and London-based choreographer Jason Piper. All eight dances are world premieres.

Repertory Orchestra and Concert Band perform Feb. 25

BOONE—The Appalachian Repertory Orchestra and Appalachian Concert Band will perform Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.

Opening reception for Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition will be held March 1

BOONE—The Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition (AMPC) opening reception will take place March 1 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts at Appalachian State University.

Spaces still available for May Alternative Service Experience programs

BOONE—Appalachian State University’s Alternative Service Experience (ASE) Program has openings available for international experiences to Ghana and Thailand that will take place May 13-28. Sign-ups are on a first come, first serve basis.
