Spaces still available for May Alternative Service Experience programs

BOONE—Appalachian State University’s Alternative Service Experience (ASE) Program has openings available for international experiences to Ghana and Thailand that will take place May 13-28. Sign-ups are on a first come, first serve basis.

Participants on the Ghana program will work with organizations on local farming and community development through education and health care while enjoying African culture and cuisine. The cost of the program is $3,900, which includes airfare, housing, food and in-country transportation.

On the Thailand program, students will work with women’s empowerment organizations, learn the Thai language, eat traditional cuisine and explore the northern city of Chiang Mai. The cost of the program is $4,350, which includes airfare, housing, food and in-country transportation.

Both programs are drug- and alcohol-free and give students an opportunity to volunteer, as well as learn more about the world and themselves.

Students may sign up at the ACT Outreach Office located on the first floor of the new student union addition or learn more at http://act.appstate.edu/ase.
