Appalachian’s University Communications receives nine MarCom Awards

BOONE—Appalachian State University’s University Communications won nine awards in the MarCom Awards 2012 international competition for marketing and communication professionals.

The MarCom Awards honor excellence and recognize the creativity, hard work and generosity of marketing and communication professionals.

Duncan, Hayes and Chandler re-elected officers on university’s Foundation Board

BOONE—Wayne D. Duncan of Raleigh, R. Vaughn Hayes of North Wilkesboro and Thomas “Ted” Chandler Jr. of Burlington have been re-elected to one-year terms as officers of the Appalachian State University Foundation Board of Directors.

N.C. Poet Laureate speaks at Appalachian’s commencement ceremonies Dec. 16

BOONE—N.C. Poet Laureate Joseph Bathanti will be the speaker at December commencement at Appalachian State University.

Bathanti is a professor of creative writing at Appalachian and director of the Writing in the Field program and writer-in-residence in the university’s Watauga Global Community.

Students spend holiday helping with disaster relief

BOONE—Nine students from Appalachian State University traded Thanksgiving with their families for the opportunity to clean up damage from Hurricane Sandy in the Rockaway neighborhood of Queens, N.Y.

Artist Amy Scheidegger talks about the Artistic Rebuttal Book Project Nov. 28

BOONE—A lecture with Amy Scheidegger, director of the Artistic Rebuttal Book Project (ARBP), will be held Nov. 28 from 5- 7 p.m. in Plemmons Student Union’s Solarium at Appalachian State University. The event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by Looking Glass Gallery located in the student union.

Appalachian Guitar Orchestra performs Nov. 19

BOONE—The Appalachian Guitar Orchestra performs Thursday, Nov. 29, at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free. The program includes compositions by Handel, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Leontovych.

Jazzy holiday concert presented Dec. 7

BOONE—The Jazz Vocal Ensemble from Appalachian State University’s Hayes School of Music will present “A Little Bit of Christmas” Friday, Dec. 7, at 8 p.m. Admission is free.

BOONE—The Catherine J. Smith Gallery (CSG) at Appalachian State University will present the BFA Senior Studio Fall 2012 exhibition Dec. 7 – Jan. 12, 2013, at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts on campus.
