Newly acquired art to be displayed at Plemmons Student Union

BOONE—An exhibit of works recently acquired for Plemmons Student Union’s art collections will be featured Dec. 3-14 in Looking Glass Gallery.

The exhibition, “Acquired Experiences,” is curated by Erin Taylor and showcases the newest acquisitions of the student union’s Appalachian Artists Collection. The gallery is located on the first floor of the student union. It is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. Admission is free.

Created by student artists at Appalachian, these works were purchased for the collection from Art Expo 2012, a juried exhibition of student artwork that takes place on campus each year. The works are indicative of the variety of talent and media techniques developed in the university art programs.

Ongoing renovations to the student union throughout the Fall 2012 semester have sequestered many pieces from university art collections into storage including these new acquisitions,. The “Acquired Experiences” exhibit provides an opportunity for the community to view these new works before they are placed on permanent display throughout the student union.

The exhibit also offers viewers a glimpse into the creative experiences and traditions that artists on campus continue to embrace.

The new acquisitions on view in the gallery are comprised of the paintings of Carly Moore, Josiah Camero, and Elisabeth Durham; fibers work by Rachel Kirk; mixed media drawing by Alex Stutts; and a digital media piece by Dianna Loughlin.
