Faculty book reception celebrates 2011-2012 faculty publications

The reception was sponsored and hosted by the Richard T. Barker Friends of the University Library – which has sponsored the reception for more than 15 years to honor faculty who have published books in the last academic year.

“Excellence lives at Appalachian. We have scholars, we have master teachers and I am really proud every day to be a part of it…You bring prestige to us and you (the faculty) make us look good to the rest of the country and the academy,” said Provost Lori Gonzalez.

Dean of Libraries Mary Reichel also commented on the importance of books and of faculty publications.

“Books have had a special place in libraries since libraries began. They are a major way that conversations open up among scholars and are opened to the rest of us to read and benefit from,” said Reichel. “We rely on you (the faculty) for students who are well-informed, can think critically and can use our library resources in a discerning way. We also rely on you for the next generation of scholars who will fill future libraries with their work.”
