BOONE—Guitarist Milen Parashkevov will present a recital on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Recital Hall at Appalachian State University. Admission is free.
He will perform works by Johan Kaspar Mertz, Nikita Koshkin and Carlo Domeniconi, as well as two of his compositions for guitar.
Parashkevov is a guitar instructor at Campbell University. Born in Bulgaria, Parashkevov began playing the guitar at age 10. He received the B.M.A. in guitar performance from Mozarteum-Salzburg, Austria, and the M.M.A. and D.M.A. from Texas Tech University.
He is active as a guitarist performer, composer and editor. During his years as a student, he won several first and second prizes from both international guitar performance and guitar composition competitions in the U.S., Canada and Europe, including second prize at the Appalachian Guitar Competition in 2002. He received first prize at the Falleta International Guitar Composition Competition in Buffalo in 2005 with his piece “Evocation,” which he will perform during his recital at Appalachian.
