BOONE—Dr. Tony Carey has received the Leadership in History Award from the American Association for State and Local History. Co-recipients of the award are the Historic Chattahoochee Commission (HCC) and the Troup County Historical Society (TCHS). The award is for Carey’s book “Sold Down the River: Slavery in the Lower Chattahoochee River Valley of Alabama and Georgia.” [more]

BOONE—Appalachian State University will test its AppState Alert siren system Wednesday, July 11, at 11:55 a.m. Tests of the siren system are normally conducted on the first Wednesday of the month, but the July test was moved because of the July 4 holiday. [more]
