Appalachian/Nature Research Center partnership enhances science education outreach

BOONE—A partnership between the N.C. Museum of Science’s Nature Research Center in Raleigh and UNC System universities has paired Dr. Rachel L. Smith with the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Appalachian State University.

Parent to Parent to hold Silver Anniversary dinner to benefit local families June 16

BOONE—To celebrate its 25th year of operation and its director, Parent to Parent Family Support Network will host a dinner titled “A Starry, Starry Night, the Silver Anniversary of Parent to Parent FSN-HC.” The event will be held on June 16 from 6-9 p.m. in Holy Cross Episcopal Church’s Skiles Hall in Valle Crucis.

Registration is now open for the High Country Triple Crown running series

BOONE—The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Institute for Health and Human Services (IHHS) at Appalachian State University announces the High Country Triple Crown, a series of three challenging and fun races covering beautiful mountain terrain. All proceeds will benefit Girls on the Run of the High Country, a self-esteeming building program for girls in the 3rd-5th grade.

Bringle has been named the Kulynych/Cline Visiting Distinguished Professor

BOONE—Dr. Robert Bringle has been named the Kulynych/Cline Visiting Distinguished Professor of Psychology in Appalachian State University’s Wiley F. Smith Department of Psychology beginning in August.

Memorial Day ceremony held May 28 at Appalachian

BOONE—Award-winning poet and novelist Alan Shapiro will speak Thursday, June 7, at 3:30 p.m. in Room 421 Belk Library and Information Commons at Appalachian State University. Shapiro’s presentation is the first in the annual Summer Author Series sponsored by the library.
