Everhart, Maass and Ludwig honored by College of Fine and Applied Arts

BOONE—The College of Fine and Applied Arts at Appalachian State University has presented its 2011-2012 faculty awards to Chad Everhart, Kern Maass and Scott Ludwig. They were recognized by their colleagues for exemplary teaching, service and creative activity at a reception April 19 and will be honored during commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 12.

Math competition brings out the best

BOONE—Students from across the region took home top honors and proved math can be fun during the regional N.C. State High School Mathematics Contest held at Appalachian State University. The competition in in algebra one and comprehensive math was held during N.C. Science Festival activities at the university. Regional winners qualified to compete at the state-level competition.

Saxophonist Jamey Aebersold performs May 2 at Appalachian

BOONE—Internationally known saxophonist Jamey Aebersold will perform May 2 at Appalachian State University. The free performance begins at 6 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall.

Twelve students honored at 15th Annual Celebration of Research and Creative Endeavors

BOONE—Student research on religion and its effects on organ donation and a controlled greenhouse study on chicken litter were among the winners of a Student Research Poster Competition held at Appalachian State University during the 15th Annual Celebration of Research and Creative Endeavors.

BOONE—The UNC Board of Governors has approved promotions for 53 faculty members at Appalachian State University.

Quintessential! performs April 29

BOONE—Quintessential! vocal group will perform April 29 at 5 p.m. at Appalachian State University. The free performance will be presented in Broyhill Music Center’s Hayes School of Music.

Appalachian Guitar Orchestra performs April 29

BOONE—The 31-member Appalachian Guitar Orchestra performs works by Rodrigo, Handel, Grieg and others during an April 29 performance at Appalachian State University. The program begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.

Class on “Plant Parenthood” offered May 5 at Appalachian’s greenhouse

BOONE—Green thumb or not, you can learn nearly two dozen ways to propagate plants asexually during a class on vegetative propagation of plants being offered May 5.

Repertory orchestra and concert band perform April 29

BOONE—Violist Eric Koontz joins the Appalachian Repertory Orchestra for an April 29 performance. Also performing will be the Appalachian Concert Band. The program begins at 2 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.
