Religious scholar talks about angels and apparitions Feb. 29

ann_taves_t.jpgBOONE—Noted religious studies scholar Dr. Ann Taves will present two talks at Appalachian State University.

On Wednesday, Feb. 29, Taves will present “Angels, Aliens, and Apparitions of the Dead: Revelation, Science, and the Academic Study of Religion” beginning at 7 p.m. in the Bryce and Izoria Gordon Gathering Hall in the Reich College of Education on College Street.

Campus emergency siren test conducted March 7

BOONE—Appalachian State University will test its campus-wide siren warning system Wednesday, March 7, at 11:55 a.m. Tests are normally conducted on the first Wednesday of the month. The tone used for the monthly tests is not the same tone used for an actual emergency. Visit http://epo.appstate.edu/siren-warning-system to hear the alert tones.

Faculty recital features organist Joby Bell

BOONE—Organist Joby Bell is the featured musician for a March 1 faculty recital at Appalachian State University. The program begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.

Counseling and Psychological Services promotes artwork contest for Eating Disorders Awareness

BOONE—Students are encouraged to use their art skills and enter the artwork contest for Eating Disorder Awareness for the month of February. The contest is sponsored by Appalachian State University’s Counseling and Psychological Services.

Visiting Writers Series hosts Debra Monroe for March 8 readings

Debra_Monroe_t.jpgBOONE—Novelist and memoirist Debra Monroe will give a reading on Thursday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m  at Appalachian State University in the Table Rock Room of Plemmons Student Union. Her reading is part of the Hughlene Bostian Frank Visiting Writers Series. She will also present a craft talk titled “Plot Matter: In Fiction and Memoir” in Table Rock Room from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Community forum on renewable energy in the High Country to be held March 1

BOONE —Appalachian State University will host the forum “Energy Innovation in the High Country” on Thursday, March 1, from 6-9 p.m. at the Broyhill Events Center on campus, formerly the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center.

Jazz trombonist Steve Davis performs Feb. 25

Steve_Davis_t.jpgBOONE—Trombonist Steve Davis performs with the Hayes School of Music’s Jazz Ensemble I on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 8 p.m. in Farthing Auditorium at Appalachian State University. Admission is free.  A meet and greet with Davis will follow the performance in Broyhill Music Center’s main lobby.

The ensemble is directed by Todd Wright.

Trumpet chamber recital presented Feb. 28

BOONE—James Stokes leads a faculty trumpet chamber recital Feb. 28 at Appalachian State University. The performance begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall.

Looking Glass Gallery presents “Limbo” by Alexandra Cirulis

Ciriulis_t.jpgBOONE–Looking Glass Gallery presents “Limbo,” a painting and mixed media exhibition by student artist Alexandra Cirulis. The show will be on view through March 6 with a reception March 2 from 6-7 p.m. in the gallery.
