Stop the Hate, Show the Love held March 2

The event “Stop the Hate, Show the Love: A Night of Hate Crime Awareness” will be held Friday, March 2, at 6:30 p.m. in Plemmons Student Union’s Grandfather Mountain Ballroom.

Students collaborate with Eastman on new product launch

Eastman_t.jpgKINGSPORT, Tenn.— Furniture design students at Appalachian State University are getting first-hand experience working with a new innovative product, Perennial Wood™, real wood made to endure. Sponsored by Eastman, the Perennial Wood Appalachian State Design Studio 2012 provides students with chances to display their furniture in several high profile venues.

Works by women composers featured March 6

BOONE—The Hayes School of Music’s Faculty Recital Series presents the program “Listening to the Unheard: A Concert of Women Composers” on Tuesday, March 6, at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall at Appalachian State University. Admission is free.

Annual People of the Planet Soccer Tournament to be held April 1

soccer_t.jpgBOONE—Adult and youth soccer players are invited to participate in the 6th Annual People of the Planet Soccer Tournament. The tournament, part of Appalachian State University’s Diversity Celebration,  will be played on the turf fields at Watauga High School on Sunday, April 1, from 9 a.m.- 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Appalachian’s Staff Council is now Staff Senate

BOONE—The Appalachian State University Staff Council is now Staff Senate.

The change became effective via a two-thirds vote of council membership on Feb. 14. In addition, several of the officer and general position titles were changed.

Record number selected for National Conferences for Undergraduate Research

BOONE – Thirty student abstracts from Appalachian State University, the most ever for the university, have been selected for this year’s National Conferences for Undergraduate Research to be held in Ogden, Utah, March 29-31. The event will be held at Weber State University.

National Eating Disorders Awareness Week observed Feb. 27-March 2

BOONE—The Appalachian State University Global Film Series presents “Tambien la Lluvia”(Even the Rain) on Tuesday, March 6, at 7 p.m. in I.G. Greer Auditorium. Admission is free.

Appalachian Energy Center to co-host hydrogen railway conference in United Kingdom

BOONE – The increasing price of diesel fuel, the need to reduce carbon emissions, and the high cost for railway electrification require alternatives to diesel and electric trains. The long-term solution to these challenges is the development of hydrogen-based propulsion system for railways.
