Thaxton named director of Appalachian’s fast-growing environmental science program

Craft enrichment classes offered at Appalachian

BOONE—Appalachian State University’s  craft enrichment classes are now enrolling students. Register now for basket making, painting, architecture, glass fusing and slumping, spinning, sewing, weaving, pottery, wood working, welding, photography, jewelry and stain glass.

Campus emergency siren test conducted Feb. 1

BOONE—Appalachian State University will test its campus-wide siren warning system Wednesday, Feb.1, at 11:55 a.m. Tests are normally conducted on the first Wednesday of the month. The tone used for the monthly tests is not the same tone used for an actual emergency. Visit to hear the alert tones.

14th Annual Polar Plunge held Feb. 16 at Appalachian

polar_plunge_t.jpgBOONE – Appalachian State University will host the 14th Annual Polar Plunge Feb. 16 at the campus duck pond to support the Special Olympics athletes of Watauga County. The event will begin at 4 p.m. immediately following registration at 3 p.m.

Faculty recital Jan. 29 features violinist Nancy Bargerstock

BOONE—A violin recital with Nancy Bargerstock and friends will be presented at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.

Looking Glass Gallery exhibit features works from the Leigh Lane Edwards Collection

Appalachian’s program for in-school behavioral health services to expand to three counties

BOONE—A highly successful program that provides in-school behavioral health services to students at Watauga High School is the basis for a plan to establish similar services in other counties beginning with Ashe and Alleghany counties and possibly Caldwell County in the near future.
