Momentum Dance Showcase to perform Jan. 27 – 28

BOONE — Gotta dance! Momentum Dance Club, the Appalachian State University student organization for those passionate about dance, presents Momentum Showcase 2012 Jan. 27-28. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. in Varsity Gym 208, a state-of-the-art classroom specifically designed for dance. Ticket prices start at $6 for Appalachian students. The Momentum Showcase 2012 is exclusively choreographed and danced by Appalachian freshmen, seniors, dance majors, business majors and everything in between as Momentum Dance Club is open to all students on campus. This year’s showcase features performances from a variety of dance clubs including Entropy Dance Crew, ASU Elite Dance Team and Hip Hop Oasis. Individual choreographers this year are Jane Bowers, Kaitlyn Curran, Laura Beth Anders, Jillian Robinson, Olivia Sings, Erin Barrett, Emily Smart, and Bethany Gillet.

Proceeds from Momentum Showcase 2012 help fund master classes with guest artists and support students expanding their dance experience.

Varsity Gym 208 is located off Rivers Street near Stadium Drive. The entrance is near Central Dining Hall, facing Anna Belk Hall and Plemmons Student Union. Once inside, room 208 is down the stairs and to the right.  Parking is available after 5 p.m. on campus in faculty/staff lots and the College Street parking deck near Belk Library and Information Commons.

The Department of Theatre and Dance is housed in the College of Fine and Applied Arts. Its mission is to provide liberal arts educations for the BS degree in teaching theatre arts and the BA degrees in dance studies or theatre arts. The department also values the opportunity to offer coursework for integrated learning through the arts to the general university student population. Vital to the support of this mission is a dynamic co-curricular production program that provides exemplary theatre and dance experiences to departmental students, the university community and the region. The departmental philosophy is to support the university’s liberal arts environment through a balanced and integrated emphasis on teaching, creative activity, scholarship and service.
