Siren warning system test Dec. 7

BOONE—Appalachian State University will test its campus-wide siren warning system Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 11:55 a.m. Tests are normally conducted on the first Wednesday of the month. The tone used for the monthly tests is not the same tone used for an actual emergency. Visit http://epo.appstate.edu/siren-warning-system to hear the alert tones.

LENOIR – Donning jackets, hoodies and gloves, more than 200 spectators lined Church Street in downtown Lenoir to support competitors in the first-ever Western North Carolina Gravity Games Soapbox Races on Saturday, Nov. 19.  Google and Appalachian State University co-hosted the event in support of science, technology, engineering and math (known as STEM) programs in North Carolina schools.

Appalachian’s Gospel Choir performs Dec. 4

BOONE – The LGBT Center at Appalachian State University will host a weeklong exhibit for World AIDS Day from Nov. 28 through Dec. 2 in the Multicultural Center in Plemmons Student Union.

Appalachian Chorale performs Dec. 6

BOONE—Franz Schubert’s major work for voice will be performed Dec. 6 by the Appalachian Chorale at Appalachian State University. The performance begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall at Appalachian State University. Admission is free.

Diversity Lecture Series continues with Angela Davis Jan. 24

DAVIS_t.jpgBOONE—Appalachian State University’s Office of Multicultural Student Development presents the 26th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration with “An Evening with Angela Davis” Tuesday, Jan. 24. The lecture will begin at 6 p.m. in Farthing Auditorium, followed by a 7:30 p.m. book signing and dessert reception. This event is free and open to the public.

Appalachian Wind Ensemble presents a winter concert Dec. 4

BOONE—The Appalachian Wind Ensemble presents its winter concert Sunday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall at Appalachian State University. Admission is free.  Conductors are Dr. John Stanley Ross, George Naff and Donald Peach.

Appalachian Guitar Orchestra performs Dec. 4

BOONE—The varied sounds of the guitar are showcased during a performance by the Appalachian Guitar Orchestra on Sunday, Dec. 4. The concert begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall at Appalachian State University. Admission is free.
