presents senior art exhibit Dec. 5-12

BOONE—The BFA Senior Studio Fall 2011 exhibition opens Dec. 5 in Farthing Auditorium’s  Catherine J. Smith Gallery at Appalachian State University. The exhibition will be on view through Dec. 16.

A Merry Delta Zeta Christmas

DZ_Angel_Tree_t.jpgProspective members of Delta Zeta sorority at Appalachian State University participated in an Angel Tree project for the College of Health Sciences’ Communication Disorders Clinic located in University Hall in Boone. Prospective members contributed funds to purchase clothes and gifts for two families served by the clinic. Their contributions were matched by the local Delta Zeta membership. Pictured from left are Carrie Cobb, new member class philanthropy chair, Austen Mauney and Anona Miller, along with Delta Zeta advisor Elena Taylor and Sherry Street Tobin, director of the clinic’s preschool classroom. Delta Zeta’s national philanthropy focuses on the speech and hearing impaired.

New officers, members elected to the Appalachian State University Foundation Board

BOONE—Wayne D. Duncan of Raleigh, R. Vaughn Hayes of North Wilkesboro and Thomas “Ted” Chandler Jr. of Burlington have been elected to one-year terms as officers of the Appalachian State University Foundation.

Writing programs receive national award

BOONE—Appalachian State University’s writing programs have received the Conference on College Composition and Communication’s (CCCC) Writing Program Certificate of Excellence.

ACT hosts Third Annual Socially Aware Holiday Fair Dec. 9

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the International Hallway of Plemmons Student Union at Appalachian State University.

Symphony orchestra performs Beethoven’s “Fifth Symphony” Dec. 8

BOONE—Eduardo Vargas conducts the Appalachian Symphony Orchestra in a performance Thursday, Dec. 8, at Appalachian State University. The concert begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall on campus. Admission is free.

Holiday Scholarship Concert presented Dec. 2 at Appalachian

BOONE—The Hayes School of Music’s annual holiday scholarship concert will be held Friday, Dec. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Farthing Auditorium at Appalachian State University.

Playcrafters’ New Play Festival presented Dec. 1-3

BOONE — The Appalachian State University student organization Playcrafters presents the Annual New Play Festival (NPF) hosted in the intimate I.G. Greer Studio Theatre Dec. 1 – 3 at 7:30 p.m. Each night features three original works that have been written, performed, directed and designed by students. Verizon Foundation grant supports Parent to Parent Family Support Network-High Country

BOONE—Verizon Foundation has awarded $23,000 to the Parent to Parent Family Support Network-High Country, a grant and donor supported program serving Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Mitchell, Watauga, Wilkes and Yancey counties.
