Appalachian Alumni Reunion Weekend is June 10-11

Appalachian State University will host its annual Alumni Reunion Weekend June 10-11. Activities will include campus walking tours, a wine tasting and tour of the Solar Homestead project, class meetings, a tour of the university’s newest athletic facilities and the Appalachian Alumni Awards Gala.

Appalachian welcomes all alumni and friends back to campus for an event-filled summer weekend. Those classes celebrating reunions are 1961, 1966, 1971, 1976, 1981, 1986, 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2006. As part of a new recognition program for classes celebrating their 50th reunion, the university will induct members of the Class of 1961 and all prior classes as the inaugural members of the Black & Gold Society.

The Appalachian Alumni Reunion Weekend schedule of events includes:

– “Mountain Educators: The Dougherty Family and the First Fifty Years of Appalachian,” a lecture by Dr. Baker Perry of
Appalachian’s Department of Geography and Planning.
June 10 at 1 p.m.

– Black & Gold Society Induction
June 10 at 5:30 p.m.

– Solar Decathlon Homestead Tour and Wine Tasting
June 10 at 7 p.m.

– The Reich College of Education Rhododendron Society Breakfast
June 11 at 7:30 a.m.

– Black & Gold Society Class Meetings
June 11 at 9:30 a.m.

– Appalachian Family BBQ
June 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

– Campus Walking Tours
June 11 beginning at 1 p.m.

– Athletics Facilities Tour
June 11 beginning at 2 p.m.

– Appalachian Alumni Awards Gala
June 11 – reception at 5:30 p.m., dinner and program at 6:30 p.m.
The Lucky Strikes Classic Jazz Band will perform following the formal gala program.

Receiving awards at the gala are Brad Sparks, Young Alumni Award; Doug Johnson, Outstanding Service Award; and Martha Guy, Honorary Alumni Award.
